Wellness Centre Staff Step Up to Support Elders During Water Line Emergency
On January 28, Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) Chief and Council, in partnership with NCN Public Works, made the decision to close all NCN businesses due to damage to the main water line and ongoing repair work.
While most operations were paused, the NCN Family and Community Wellness Centre remained open and continued with work as regularly scheduled. This led to some initial confusion among staff, who were unsure whether they were expected to report to work given the circumstances.
Through teamwork and quick coordination, the Land Base crew, maintenance staff, members of the Human Resources team, and custodians came together to support the community. Staff went door to door delivering water to Elders, ensuring they had access to water during the disruption.
The collective efforts reflect the strong spirit of cooperation and care within the community, with staff stepping up when it mattered most.
