Public Apology Statement on behalf of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Family and Community Wellness Centre Inc. dated June 9, 2026.
The organization would like to sincerely apologize to the Community, Elders, Drum Group Members, Oskapis, and Lodge Conductors for the Sweat Lodge that was taken down.
The proper protocols were not followed, and the organization used the Sweat Lodge Building for another planned community event.
Initially, the plan was to take down the Sweat Lodge, use the building for another event, clean the tarps, mats, and building, and then set up the Sweat Lodge again.
We unintentionally took down the Lodge without receiving the proper teachings.
We sincerely apologize on behalf of the organization.
We reached out to a respected elder and received teachings on how to resolve the mistake.
We understand that what had happened caused disappointment, frustration, and hurt to the people of our Nation.
The organization did not intentionally hurt, disrespect or upset any individuals.
A gift and an in-person apology were delivered to our cultural family with an explanation of what had happened.
We are all speaking from our hearts and spirits to inform the public that the incident was unintentional and sincerely apologize to everyone who was affected.
Thank you.
