Role Overview:
The National Aboriginal Youth Suicide Prevention Coordinator coordinates and supports culturally grounded suicide prevention initiatives that promote mental wellness, resilience, and healing among Indigenous youth, families, and communities. The coordinator works collaboratively with youth, Elders, community agencies, and partner organizations to deliver prevention programs, awareness activities, crisis supports, and community wellness initiatives using culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strength-based approaches.
Demonstrated Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build respectful relationships with youth, families, Elders, and community partners.
- Knowledge of Indigenous mental wellness, suicide prevention, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices.
- Ability to facilitate workshops, youth engagement, and community wellness activities.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Experience coordinating community programs or events is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community values is a strong asset.
Qualifications:
Education: Post-secondary education in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, Mental Health, Human Services, or a related field is preferred. High School Diploma required.
Other Requirements:
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office software
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and community practices
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is an asset
- Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, and Criminal Record Checks may be required
