Position Summary
The Foster Care Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, supporting, training, and monitoring foster homes while ensuring children receive safe, nurturing, and culturally appropriate care. The position works closely with families, caregivers, community agencies, and child welfare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Foster Home Support
- Recruit and assess prospective foster parents.
- Coordinate foster home licensing and approval processes.
- Provide ongoing support and training to foster families.
- Conduct home visits and monitor placements.
- Maintain foster home records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with policies, standards, and legislation.
Child & Family Services
- Support placement planning and matching processes.
- Work collaboratively with case workers and service providers.
- Assist with family reunification planning when appropriate.
- Advocate for the needs and best interests of children.
- Facilitate access to community supports and services.
Administration
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings.
- Monitor program outcomes and foster home performance.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Child and Family Services, or a related field.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Knowledge of foster care systems and child welfare practices.
- Strong assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and family systems.
- Valid Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
- Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry, and Criminal Record Checks required.
